PAST PLAYERS MEET Tlic constitution of the ncwly-fonncd Past Hockey Players' Association was adopted at (he first general meeting of the association held last evening, when officers lor the lollowing year were elected. Elections were as Jollows; President, Mr D, Munson; vice-president. Colonel J. Murphy; secretary treasurer, Mr C. S. Kiddey; committee, Messrs R. Snell. F. Woodward, F. Crawford, R. A. Campbell, H. Luxton. B. Midgley. E. Ballinger; auditor, Mr E. R. Caygill. An address on the aims and objects of the association was given by Mr C. H. Franklin, a past-president, of the Canterbury Hockey Association. Mr Franklin made particular mention of the progress of the sport in both primary and secondary schools in the last few years, and appealed to members of the association to foster this growing interest in school children, more particularly by offering their services as coaches and umpires. There were more than 40 schoolboy teams playing in competitions at present, he said, and at times the captains of opposing teams had had to act as umpires in their own matches. Referring to the growing popularity of hockey in secondary schools, Mr Franklin said that ho had never had a complaint from school authorities about the way the sport was controlled, and. he said, tilery had never beon any conflict with other sports bodies,on the subject.
