ACCIDENTS
KILLED BY TREE (P.A.) OPOTIKI, June 9. A well known Toatoa farmer suffered fatal injuries when" felling a tree. The victim was Herbert Yardley, a married man aged 70. The tree rolled over Yardley, who had one leg badly crushed, and suffered body injuries. He was admitted to hospital and later died. FATAL PALL (P.A;) HASTINGS, June 9. During the overhaul of a boiler at the Whakatu freezing works early this morning, one of the men engaged in the work met with an accident which resulted in his death. He was Reginald Charles Larsen, an engineer, aged 39, a married man living at Whakatu. While he was tightening a nut his spanner slipped and threw him off his balance. He fell heavily to the ground 20ft below and apparently landed on his head. He was admitted to hospital suffering from a fracture of the skull and died two hours after admission. Larsen leaves a widow and four young children. 9 HAND CAUGHT IN MACHINE Mr Alexander Calder, aged 33, a mechanic, of 101 Mackenzie avenue, Woolston, was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital yesterday, suffering from compound fractures of the second and third fingers of his left hand. Mr Calder, who is employed at Venables’ nail factory, 163 Moorhouse avenue, caught his hand in a machine at his work.
His present condition is satisfactory.
