TYRE FACTORY AT LOWER HUTT

MR SEMPLE DENIES RUMOUR OF OWNING SHARES (P.A.) WELLINGTON. June 9. Denying that he was a shareholder in a company owning a tyre factory at Lower Hutt, which he opened recently, the Hon. R. Semple, in the House of Representatives this afternoon, described a rumour to that effect as a wicked falsehood. Mr Semple was answering a question on the subject by Mr J. W. Munro (Government, Dunedin North). “Seemingly, no public man is safe from these high-browed criminal slanderers,” said Mr Semple. Neither he nor the Government had any financial interest in the company, which he had, however, encouraged to get a factory going owing to New Zealand's desperate rubber shortage.
