ACCIDENTS

RAILWAY EMPLOYEE KILLED (P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, June 8. A railway employee was killed in the Stratford railway yards this afternoon when he was struck by a shunting engine as he was oiling the points. He was William George Henry Lambert Wilson, aged 56, a married man, of Stratford. Wilson was knocked down by the cow-catcher of the locomotive, which passed over him. Death was immediate. WATERSIDER INJURED AT GREYMOUTH A waterside worker, John Jackson, 53, married, of Thompson street, Greymouth. received a lacerated scalp and abrasions of the neck and body, when he was caught in a .winch while at work on the Greymouth wharf yesterday morning. Part of his clothing became entangled in the winch and Jackson, who was operating the machine, was thrown to the deck of the vessel and under the drum of the winch before it could be stopped. He was admitted to the Grey Hospital find his condition was later reported as catisfnf'tftrv Shortly after the mishap, Harry Gilmore, of Cobden, who had replaced Jackson in the operation Of the winch, was struck by a piece of timber which flew out Of a sling, and he also was thrown on to the winch. His trousers became caught in the gear, but h7 was able to pull himself away before he was seriously injured. After receiving medical attention for minor leg injuries Gilmore was able to go home.
