HYDE RAILWAY DISASTER

REPAIRS TO TRACK COMPLETED FUNERAL OF VICTIMS (P.A.) DUNEDIN, June 8. Repair work was completed this morning on the track at the scene of the railway disaster near Hyde. Inward and outward trains were able to make through trips. The 25 injured persons remaining in the Ranfurly and Dunedin hospitals were reported to-night to be progressing favourably. At the request of the Mayor of Alexandra (Mr A. McKellar) business premises in Alexandra were closed this afternoon during the funerals of Mr John M. Frater, his daughter, Mrs Irene White, and her two young sons. Mrs Frater was among the injured, Alexandra’s association with the tragedy was substantial, as, in addition to these victims, Mr Charles McKenzie, who also lost his life, was employed there by Mr W. J. Robertson for some years. Mr John Wright, who recently returned frbm the Middle East, was employed in the Railways Department at Alexandra before his enlistment, and Mr John E. O'Connell, of Hyde, was a brother of Father O'Connell, of Alexandra.
