TYRE RESERVE FOR HOME GUARD

SUGGESTION BY FARMERS’ UNION

The creation by, the Government of a Home Guard tyre reserve for cars and trucks was proposed by the provincial conference of the North Canterbury district of the Farmers' Union. The remit, adopted suggested that this reserve should be readily available to Home Guardsmen in rural areas in recognition of the large mileage of tyre wear incurred by them over the last three years at their own expense which had put them at a disadvantage in securing maximum mileage from tyres now in use and which cannot be replaced, The remit suggested alternatively that retreading service be made available to those who have used their vehicles for defence training.
