COMMISSIONER TO MOSCOW?
♦ RUMOURED APPOINTMENT DISCUSSED IN HOUSE From Our Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, June 4. Rumours that Mr James Roberts, president of the New Zealand Labour Party, was to be appointed New Zealand High Commissioner at Moscow were mentioned during consideration of the External Affairs Bill by the House of Representatives to-day. When Mr H. G. Dickie (Opposition. Patea) was expressing the hope that legations would be established only where they could serve a useful purpose, he suggested that trade between Russia and New Zealand was not likely to grow because Russia produced the goods New Zealand had. An Opposition member: What about the “uncrowned king?" Mr Dickie: They say “uneasy lies the head that wears a crown." Perhaps an uncrowned king has a better time. “Rumour has it that the Russian appointment is already made," said Mr F W. Doidge (Opposition, Tauranga) later in the debate. “Rumour says Jim Roberts is going there/' Mr Doidge was then interrupted by loud laughter from the Government benches. “Let us hope rumour is a lying jade." he commented before leaving tiie subject.
