STUDY OF LIBRARY WORK
NEW EDUCATION FELLOWSHIP Meetings organised by the Christchurch branch of the New Fellowship were held on Wednesday at the Teachers' Training College, to study the question of “Books, Schools, and Libraries.'' At both afternoon and evening sessions, films dealing with library work were screened. A talk on the library services now available to schools was given by Mr C. W. Collins, of the Canterbury University College library, and in the evening, Mr E. J. Bell, librarian of the Christchurch Public Library. gave an address on "School Services in Christchurch.” The Director of Visual Education (Mr W. B. Harris), who attended the meetings, spoke on “Books for Parents.” The guest speaker was Miss" A. K. Elliot, librarian of the Timaru Public Library, who took as her subject, “How a Library Can Assist Schools.” Opportunity was afforded the 150 persons who attended the meetings to inspect displays of books lent by the Timaru Library, the Canterbury College Library, the Teachers’ Training College Library, and the Christchurch Museum Library, and by the Country Library Service. At the conclusion of the meeting on Wednesday evening it was decided to set up the following committee to investigate and, report.OA services. .available to -schools,. teachers,and' parents: Miss M. V,- Kennedy .and Messrs F. C. Brew. E. J. Bell, and C. W. Collins. The committee was given power to co-opt additional members from educational and local bodies.
