WAR PENSION CLAIMS
CHANGE IN ONUS OF PROOF From Our Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON. June 3. A change in claims for war pensions —that relating to attributability—was announced by the Hon. W. Nash, Minister of Finance, to-night. "No single word during the last decade or more has caused more heartburnings and been so much misunderstood.” he said. “It is proposed now to change the whole procedure in connexion with proving the claims. After the act ha? been amended the responsibility of proof will be with the Pensions Department, which, in effect, will have to prove that the disability from which a returned serviceman is suffering is not attributable to the war. In other words, it changes the onus of proof.”
