PATRIOTIC FUNDS
GREATER PART FOR ZONE COMMITTEES A greater share in the administration of patriotic funds by zone committees was advocated to the Canterbury Provincial Patriotic Council by Mr H. S. Feast, for the standing committee, yesterday. He said the metropolitan zone had been co-operating in this respect and he suggested that other zones might make recommendations for the welfare of men of their own areas. The committees were not mere collecting bodies. They should be given the stimulus of a greater part in the use of the funds. TTiere was still a shortage of weekend accommodation in Christchurch for servicemen on leave. A suggestion had been made that provision be made for the billeting of 50 men at the Welcome Club, Mr Feast said, in the report of the standing committee. Of 151 applicants for assistance, 116 received some help, seven orders were granted, 23 were declined, and 12 were held over or referred to other authorities. The lady visitors had given valuable help in determining these requirements.
