SMALL POULTRY RUN OWNERS
NO RESTRICTIONS UNDER ACT Small poultry keepers or others wishing to own more than 24 laying birds do not automatically become subject to regulations affecting the class or building, the type of stock, and the sale of eggs, as soon as they register their poultry runs. This statement was made by the Superintendent of Poultry Husbandry (Mr F. Bobby) in a letter to the North Canterbury District Council of Primary Production yesterday. Mr Bobby said that the conception held by small poultry keepers was entirely erroneous, as the Poultry Runs Registration Act did not include any such regulations or restrictions. The small poultry keeper was merely asked to fill in a form at his nearest post office, and to pay 2s 6d for any number of birds over 25 and up to 100. This money was used to finance the activities of the New Zealand Poultry Board, which was constantly watching the interests of the industry, and thus automatically benefiting the small poultry keeper as well as the commercial man wholly occupied in this industry.
