DUNEDIN Sale Reported—Macduffs (ord,), 9s 9d. COMPANY NEWS Martha Mining.—Cabled advice from London stales that the gross profit earned by the Martha Gold Mining Company for the year ended December 31, was £120,966 The amount brought forward was £4020, income tax (London and New Zealand) £68,572. depreciation £3608. Dividends, including the final 6d a share already announced, absorb £41,326. leaving £11,480 to be carried forward. Net profit at £48,786 compares with £60.041 in 1941 and £62,200 in 1940—(P.5.5.) Donaghy’s Rope.—At the annual meeting of Donaghy’s Rope and Twine Company, Ltd., the chairman of directors (Mr J H. Meek) referred to difficulties in obtaining supplies of raw materials. The company was doing its best to maintain output. There was insufficient profit this year to provide the usual 10 per cent, dividend without drawing on the subsidiary. the Andrews Twine Company, for £IOSO. War loans and investments stood at £18,638. Provision for taxation was £33,000, against £30.000 last year. Net profit was £602 higher than last year, but the capita! increase was not in full use during previous years. The manufacturing account showed a balance of £69.014, a slight increase being due to additional tonnage sales. MINING Btackwater Mines, X.td.—The Blackwater Mines return for the four weeks ended May 21 showed that 2529 tons had been crushed, yielding 1155 ounces of gold from all sources, the value of which (taking gold at 168s a fine ounce) was £9702 Working expenses, not including ordinary or war duty, were £7133. Development expenditure was £lB5, and capital expenditure £440. The lower output was attributed to the occurrence of holidays. During the period, No. 15 level drive north was advanced 26 feet on reef averaging 1 12.93 dWts ovter ’a width ’of 85 inches. No. 15 level drive south was advanced 35 feet on reef averaging 21.23 dwts over a width of 30 inches, STOCK SALES RANGIORA No sheep were yarded at the weekly stock sale at Rangiora yesterday. Values were;— Cattle.—Springers, £lO to £l2 ss; store cows, £4 2s 6d to £4 10s; fat cows, £7 10s. Pigs.—Stores, 40s to 48s 6d; weaners, 10s to 16s. ASHBURTON Prices remained firm at the stock sale at the Ashburton yards yesterday. There was a good yarding of sheep, but few cattle were entered. Prices were:—Ewes, from 7s lOd to 24s Id: fat lambs, from 21s 4d to 335; wethers, from 19s 4d to 355. In the fat cattle section cows sold at from £9 2s to £l2 10s, and one steer brought £l4 17s 6d. LOUNEVILLE (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, June 1. Apart from freezing ewes, all classes of butchers' sheep were generally easier by about 2s a head at the Lorneville sale to-day. Prime quality wethers made from 31s to 335, medium-weights 28s to 29s 6d, light-weight, 25s to 26s 6d; prime young butchers’ ewes, 21s to 22s 6d; prime quality 19s to 20s, medium 17s to 17s 9d, and ireezing ewes 13s to 16s, according to weight and quality. The fat lambs consisted mostly of light and unfinished sorts. There was keen competition, and values in most cases were above export schedule rates A smaller fat cattle yarding and the activity of operators for outside orders caused values to show an improvement over the prices at last week’s sale by a general average of about 30s a head. Good quality medium-weight bullocks made from £ls 5s to £l6 17s 6d, handyweights £l3 15s to £l4 15s, light-weights £1" 10s to £l2 10s, unfinished £8 to £9 ss; prime quality cows £ll to £l2 10s, good quality £lO to £lO 15s, medium £8 10s to £9 10s, aged and unfinished £5 10s to £7, good quality heifers £ll 10s to £l2 15s, medium £9 5s to £lO 10s, small £7 10s to £8 10s
