These figures were given in the House of Commons by the DeputyPrime Minister (Mr C. R. Attlee), Mr Attlee also gave the totals of United Kingdom, Dominion, and Indian casualties, as follows; United Kingd0m.—275,844 (73,477 killed, 75,403 missing, 50,163 wounded, 76,801 prisoners of war). The Chief of the United States Army Air Forces (General H. H. Arnold), speaking at West Point, predicted that “it will be only a matter of weeks before you see active service in China, India, North Africa, the Pacific, and Great Britain." CANADIAN ARMY PHYSICAL STANDARD OF RECRUITS (Rec. 12.30 a.m.) OTTAWA, June 1. Fifty of every 100 men examined for enrolment in the Canadian Army had been rejected-*-35 per cent, for physiv cal disability, and 15 per cent for emotional instability—the Minister of Defence (Mr J. L. Ralston) told the Canadian House of Commons, He added that so far there had been 74,410 discharges from the Army on medical and mental grounds. PREMIER OF ALBERTA (Rec. 12.40 a.m.) OTTAWA. June 1. The Minister of Trade in Alberta (Mr E C. Manning) succeeds Mr William Aberhart as Premier, becoming Canada’s youngest Premier.
