NEW PRESIDENT OF W.E.A.
♦ ELECTION OF FORMER STUDENT For the first time a former student at W.E.A. classes has become president of the Canterbury Workers’ Educational Association. He is Mr S. Schofield, who was elected at the annual meeting of the district council, and had been vice-president since 1929. Mr Schofield joined the W.E.A. classes in 1922 and studied economics under Professor J. B. Condliffe and Professor A. H. Tocker. Later he Was appointed as a lecturer to economic classes in Christchurch and Lyttelton. Since 1926 he has represented the Canterbury branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants on the district coun. cil of the W.E.A. The following officers were also elected: —Vice-presidents, Messrs W. J. McCullough and L. A, Efford; secretary, Mr G. Manning; treasurer, Mr W. Davidson; librarian, Mrs A. Wilson; delegates to the tutorial class committee, Messrs McCullough, Efford, A. H. Dingwall, Mrs Wilson; delegates to the advisory committee for adult education, Messrs Manning, Efford, McCullough; executive committee, Messrs Dingwall, H. Brent, J. Cairney, and Mrs Wilson.
