MCCORMACK’S BAY AREA
* SUMNER' COUNCIL SEEKS INFORMATION “According to published reports recently. it appears that Christchurch desires to have a common boundary with Sumner, and it would perhaps be wise for some communication to be sent from us to the Christchurch City Council, as someone there seems to be pressing the matter. We should then know what is the view of the City Council on the matter,” remarked Cr. W. Machin at last night’s meeting of the Sumner Borough Council. The Mayor (Mr J. E. Tait); That is an excellent idea. The Sumner Borough Council has never been afraid to come into the open and discuss the matter. It is only comparatively recently that a commission decided that this particular area should not be included with Mount Pleasant in the Christchurch area. Cr. Machin then moved the following resolution, which was passed by the council: — “That a communication be sent to the Christchurch City Council concerning the published report that it is applying to the Government for the inclusion of the McCormack’s Bay area in the city—to inquire whether this step is being taken by the city in order to facilitate the further inclusion within the city of the borough of Sumner; and if this is so, to further inquire: “(1) If the city is desirous of pressing the inclusion of the borough of Sumner within the city?; (2) if so. why is this matter being pressed at the present time?; (3) will not the City Council openly approach the Borough Council to arrange to discuss this matter and particularly the terms and conditions it would propose to apply to such inclusion?” “This resolution is both timely and quite in order,” commented Mr Tait after it had been considered by the council.
