LAWN TENNIS
♦ CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION The shortage of balls hampered the activities of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association last season, and for this reason the usual Easter tournament was not held, according to reports given to delegates to the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association at ‘a meeting last evening. In the absence of the president, Mr E. A. Lee presided. It was stated that although. the position was still obscure, it was hoped that the association would be able to obtain 9000 pairs (the minimum requirement) for distribution to tennis clubs next season. Mr Lee referred to the good work being done by the Canterbury Council of Amateur Sport, in encouraging young people to play the games in which they were interested. He appealed to delegates to see that their clubs encouraged children to play tennis, and, where possible, arranged coaching for them. Mr Lee said he hoped that the association would be able to help and "rehabilitate” those clubs which, at present for financial reasons, were unable to be afflliated to the association.
