INDUSTRIAL APPEALS

DECISIONS GIVEN YESTERDAY “If you come here and say you’re not going back to the Job whatever we decide, you can’t expect us to consider your appeal,” said Mr K. G. Archer, chairman of the Industrial Manpower Appeal Committee at yesterday’s hearing to Ronald Hemi Annan, who was appealing against the decision of the Manpower Officer refusing him permission to terminate his employment with G. L. Bowron and Company. Annan had asked Bowron’s, Ltd., to appeal for him to get out of the Army, but the appeal failed. Then Annan had appealed successfully for himself and had been directed back to work at Bowron’s, Ltd. After worldng there for three days he had left, "This is another case of a man walking out Of his Job,” said Mr Archer, and added that the manpower regulations had not been made to be broken. “It is no good sending anyone to a Job 'against his will,” said Annan. “Tell that to the Government.” Mr Archer replied, and dismissed the appeal. Mr M. Ross, District Manpower Officer, suggested that the appellant should go back to his previous employment and put in another appeal and go about it in the right way. Mr A. Paynter. representing the firm of Paynter and Hamilton, Ltd., and Mr C. T. Jones, representing the firm of Packer and Jones, Ltd., advanced their claims for the services of Alfred Marsn, a four-sider machinist, who was appealing against direction to the employment of Packer and Jones. The appeal was dismissed. Other appeals were decided as follows; - R. Collins, against the decision of the Manpower Officer granting Henry William Shackel permission to terminate his employment, withdrawn; Margaret Rhoda Beavan and Mrs Marie Ellen Chappie, against the decision of the Manpower Officer refusing to give them permission to terminate their employment with the Hotel Federal, permission granted; Mrs Marion Greenhorn, against the direction of the Manpower Officer directing Robert J. Greenhorn to employment as a butcher with Dixon Bros., adjourned to the next sitting; William P. Cosgrlff, against the direction of the Manpower Officer directing him to employment with the Housing Construction Department, withdrawn; Albert James Aston, against the direction of the Manpower Officer directing Shirley Dench to employment with the Co-op-erative Lingerie Company. Ltd., adjourned to next sitting; John Godfrey Shepherd, against the decision of the Manpower Officer refusing him permission to terminate h<s employment with Alloy Steel, (N.Z.), Ltd., dismissed; Clifford Harding Brown, against the decision of the Manpower Officer refusing him permission to terminal” his employment with the New Zealand Railways Department (goods shed), dismissed.
