Through the invention of a deep-sea diving dredge large quantities of ocean bottom can be brought up from deptns of 700 feet. The 10-ton machine converts the terrific pressure of water at great depths into kinetic energy by a svstem of valves and pistons, wbicn takes the dead weight of water ana changes it into live power. The inventor said that the machine couia work at 1000-foot depths. 300 feet more than in its demonstration recently before scientists. The dredge may revolutionise gold-mining on the ocean floor, since it makes possible operations at greater depths than ever before attempted.
