PLAN OF SETTLEMENT SIGNED AT MUNICH
Representatives of Four Powers Reach Agreement
MR CHAMBERLAIN HAILED AS OUTSTANDING
STATESMAN OF DAY
In the small hours of yesterday morning the representatives of the four dreat Powers —Mr Chamberlain (Britain), Herr Hitler (Germany), M. Daladier (France), and Signor Mussolini (Italy)— signed an agreement at Munich embodying the terms for a peaceful settlement of the Czechoslovakian crisis.
These terms have now been accepted by the Czech Government.
Immediately the agreement was signed, a special aeroplane conveyed the terms to Prague, where the Czech Cabinet met to consider the details and report its decision.
The settlement reached at Munich is, it js claimed, closely approximate to the terms of the British-French proposals. The occupation of the Sudeten areas by German troops is authorised by the agreement, but it is provided that this should be carried out in gradual stages from October 1 to October 10.
Messages from all parts of the world pay tribute to the tireless energy with which Mr Chamberlain has pursued peace, and hail him as the outstanding statesman of modern times.
