BOY OVERBOARD FROM MARIPOSA
RESCUE DURING VOYAGE TO AUCKLAND (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, September 30. ' A cry of “man overboard” rang through the Mariposa as she approached Pago Pago on the way to Auckland. A bell-boy had gone overboard, but he was seen in the water and the vessel was stopped in time for a boat to be lowered and a rescue effected. The boy was left at Pago Pago. A passenger stated that at breakfast, when it was noticed that the ship’s engines had stopped, they were a day and a half from Pago Pago. A member of the crew had seen a bellboy fall and raised the alarm. The sea. was fairly choppy, and it was difficult to locate the boy. Two boats were lowered, and the second one found hirp. He did not seem to have suffered greatly. The ship was stopped for about two hours. “He was lucky,” said another passenger. “He was in the water an hour and a quarter in a shark-infested area.”
