CRACKS IN WALLS BEING

WATCHED

Cracks which have appeared in the walls of the Christchurch Teachers’ Training College building are being closely' watched by the archi* tectural staff of the Canterbury Education Board, but no serious trouble is expected. The board’s architect (Mr J. A. Bigg) said yesterday that the cracks occurred at the junctions of the three sections of the £uilding, which were built at different times. They were caused by the general settlement of the building, and provided that the settlement was even there was no' A close watch, however, was being kept. - , Mr Bigg said that a certain amount of settlement was to be* expected in every building, and cracks were to be expected where two sections built at different times joined each other. He did not thmk that there 'was any cause for concern about the Training College building. The first section of the building was erected in February, 1926, the second in May, 1927, and the third in June, 1930. The wads , consist of stone on the outside, a concrete tvl~ ing, and an inside lining of brick.
