NO VISIT TO WEST COAST

SIR JULIEN CAHN’S TEAM ATTITUDE OF CRICKET ASOCIATION “We have been in communication with the New Zealand Cricket Council through our representative (Mr I. B. Cronib), about the visit of Sir Julien Cahn’s eleven to New Zealand early next year,” states the report of the chairman of the West Coast Cricket Association (Mr J. Stokes), which will be presented to the annual meeting of delegates at Greymouth to-morrow evening. “We received a favourable rfeply,” the report adds, “advising that we would most likely be included in the programme; now we find that we are not even mentioned. We trust that the incoming committee will do its best *to get this team across, to the West Coast, as by such a visit, cricket in the district would be helped considerably.” “Our financial position,” the report states, “shows a deficit this year, of £4 14s 9d. The reason for this'is that no collection was taken at oiir main game of the season, the final of the minor associations’ game against Ashburton, wet weather being the spoiling factor. We estimate, with expenses which we paid for the visit of this team, we lost more than £lO. The: credit balance in the bank is £33 17s 7d. We were very successful with our games this year, going through the season without • a loss. The two main games were against Buller, winning the Forest Cup from them, the other being the final of the minor associations’ trophy which we still hold for the second year in succession. The game ended in draw. We played Mr I. B. Crombs’ eleven and after a keen game we beat them in a close finish. We played a home-and-home game with our Sputhern Association, winning one, the last game at Hokitika being a draW.” “The competitions for the various trophies were very close, and the winners were as follows: —Senior (Saturday), United; senior (Sunday), Cobden. The Tom Feary competition was declared unfinished, Marist being in, the lead. Junior—Cobden (Technical runners-up); one round competition, Technical (Marist runners-up). We must congratulate M. Marshall on his selection in the. minor associations’ game at Christchurch.” -
