FENCING

CHRISTCHURCH TEAM'S MATCH AT NELSON

For the first time a match has been arranged between the Christchurch Swords Club and the Nelson Fencing Club. A team of four men from Christchurch will leave to-day for Nelson to fight matches with members of the northern club. Because of the forthcoming interprovincial and New Zealand fencing championships to be held in Christchurch during the Labour week-end, this is not being regarded as an interprovincial match, but as a friendly inter-club assault. The Nelson Club has been established for several years under the guidance of • Miss 8.. Nossiter, and has fought bouts against Wellington, but hitherto lit has not been found possible to arrange for an assault with a southern club. It is expected that Nelson will be among the clubs throughout New Zealand to send members to participate in the coming championships. Members of the Christchurch Club's team are: Messrs J. G. D. Ward (captain): T. H.- Farley, B. H. Cato, and M. Walker.
