OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, September 29. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued atsp.m by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows- • ■* Light to moderate and variable winds, with north-easterlies predominating-. Weather mainly fair, but with morning- fog- or drizzle in places. Temperatures cool, with some frosts. Seas slight to moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate northerly winds. Weather fair, with mild temperatures. Seas moderate.
DOMINION The forecast for the Dominion is:—
Cloudy to overcast on the east coast from Kaikoura to East Cape and in the central and southern portions of the North Island, with scattered light rain, but improving. Elsewhere fair to fine. Temperatures cool to moderate, with some ground frosts and morning fogs in the South Island. A depression moved eastward last night off the South Island. Aii extensive anticyclone now covers the Dominion, with centres in the far north and off the east coast of the South Island. Pressure is rather low over eastern Australia.
Winds—Light to moderate and variable, southerlies predominating at first, from Nelson and Marlborough northwards, and norther lies, in the far south. Noftherlies gradually, extending northwards to beyond Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate northerly to northwesterly winds and slight to moderate SeaS. "''": :
CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER] i Yesterday was mainly overcast in Christchurch, with only occasional sunshine. There was a light south-weSt-erly wind. The maximum temperature during the day was 56.2 degrees. At 1 o'clock this morning the sky was cloudy and there was a strong •easterly wind. The temperature ' was 47 degrees. The barometer waa steady at 30.30 inches. -

IN OTHER PLACES Auckland —Fine but cloudy weather with a light to moderate-wind .from 'the south-west was experienced. The maximum temperature was 65 degrees. The barometer was-high and steady with the reading at 5 pjm. 30-30 inches. was overcast with occasional light rain. The temperature was rather cool, and there was a light to moderate southerly breeze. The maximum; temperature yesterday was 51.5 degrees, and the minimum on Wednesday night 48.4 degrees. At 3 pro. yesterday the barometer was 30.23 ariches. Dunedin—The weather yesterday was dull and cold in the morning, but the sun shone brightly in the afternoon. The temperature reached a maximum of 56 degrees in spite of a cool northeast breeze. The barometer fell to 30.30 inches in the afternoon.
