BAIL REFUSED
' ♦— —— . WOMAN CHARGED AT WELLINGTON (VBKSS AMOCIATIOK JBLKOKAIC.) WELLINGTON, September 29. '■■ Bail was refused Majority Pickering, aged 42, married, who was charged before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., with unlawfully using ah instrument with intent to procure a miscarriage. Detective-Sergeant Doyle, opposing bail, said the girl concerned was not quite 20. He could remember only one case.in his experience where a magistrate had granted bail and he gave his assurance that • the police would probably be ready to proceed next Wednesday. The Magistrate said he would refuse bail in the meantime. The accused collapsed and had to be assisted from the dock.
