SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Mrs J. M. Ritchie, who has been staying with her mother, Mrs W. H. Crbell (“The Levels”), has left to make her home in Dunedin. Miss Enid Haselden has returned from a visit to Christchurch. Mrs Muir, Miss Eleanor Cleland, and Miss Joyce Humphrey (Dunedin) are the guests of Mrs James Cleland (Bidwill street). . Mrs A. J. Allport (Wai-iti road) has returned from a visit to Wellington and Christchurch. Miss Janet Mutchison (Fairview) has returned from a visit to Mrs C. Kerr (Rata Peaks). BLENHEIM NEWS Large bowls of rhododendrons and anemones decorated the Plunket rooms when an enjoyable bridge party was held in aid of the Plunket Society’s funds. The hostesses were Mesdames J. McLauchlan, F. W. Horton, K. F. Wilkinson, J. A. Mitchell, and Miss Brown. _ Prizes were won by Mrs W. R. Day. Mrs Bryden, Mrs G. Jennings, and Mr F. Mogridge. Those present included Mesdames A. Hood (president), S. R. Jackson, W. T. Churchward, A. A Macnab, R. D. Wilson, A. R. Graham, G, M. Spence, W. R. Day, L. Farrington, W. K. Gill, T. S. Couch, M. D. Sinclair, F. Cook, W. F. Watters, J. S. C. Thomas, H. Robson, J. Stevenson, Livingstone, H. Reeves, T. Julian, B. K. White, J. Gosling, and C H. Mills, Misses M. Stevenson, E. Lewis, G. Sharpe, M. Livingstone. M. Macnab, V. Hammond, B. Jackson, N. Mcßeth, and Cowie. Mrs G. Williams (Wellington) is staying- with her - daughter, Mrs P. Dillon. Miss B. Stace is visiting Hamilton. Mr and Mrs W. Masefield (Ellerton), who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs F. V, H. Robinson, “Lake Timara,” have returned home. Mrs H. Hall (Wellington) is visiting Mr and Mrs P. Hall, “The Haldpns.” SALE OF WORK The Hornby branch of the Plunket Society held a successful sale of work in the Hornby Hall. Mr Morgan Williams, M.P., declared the fair open, and the Boys’ Band of the Hornby Young Men’s Christian Association, conducted by Mr J. Dann, played selections. Stallholders were:—Cakes, Mesdames Skerton apd Postello and Miss Postello; sweets, Mesdames Spicer and Frazer; produce, Mesdames McGlinchey and Gray and Miss Ockenden; bran tub and Mriety stall, Mrs H. Rowe and Miss Margaret Ashby. Mrs T. Hunter was the secretary and treasurer of the organising committee. PREBBLETON INSTITUTE’S DANCE There was a large attendance of visitors at ,the Prebbleton Hall, .when members of the Women’s Institute held a dance to augment their »funds. In the card room, the competitions were won by Mrs E. Walker, Mrs-A. Thomson, Mr J. James, and Mr A. Case. Music for dancing was supplied by Les. Kinsman’s orchestra, supper extras being played by Miss Vonnie Smith. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Thomas and Mr J. Anderson. Mr H. Prebble was master of ceremonies. Carpenter, Misses , Leah Drayton, Jeanne Morel, Rene Gallagher, Florence Warren, Suzanne Walker, Peggy O’Neill, Linda Anderson, Elizabeth Anderson, Joyce Hoff, Joan Pimm, Olive Streeter, Hazel Streeter, Patricia Gordon, Edna Henderson, Mary McKenzie, Dulcie Brennan, Nancy Gallagher, Nancy James, Aileen Gallagher, Kathleen Tod, Rhona Tod, Lorna Gallagher, Ngaire Tomson, Jean Tomson, Millicent Tod, Joan Anderson, Bessie Hands, Grace Walker, Violet Kolkman, Molly Guilford, Pearl Guilford,: Mavis Smith, Vonnie Smith, Betty Thomas, and Joan Thomas. FLAG “500” PARTY Mesdames Walker (Ferry road) and Millar (Mackenzie avenue) were joint hostesses at a card party given to augment the funds of the Christchurch women’s branch of the New Zealand Labour Party. Prize-winners were Mesdames James, Harper, and Hemingway (cards), Mrs Harper and Mrs Hills (competitions). Those present were the Mayoress (Mrs Macfarlane), Mesdames Trevella, Roberts, Buckett, Blackburn, Turnbull, Samms, Parlane, Horneman, Rothwell, Ellis, Priest, Kiddey, Feast, Watson, Phillips, James, Harper, Cheeseman, Elliot, Tulley, Carew, Mitchell, Hemingway, Baldwin, and Miss Robinson.
