STRENGTHENING OF SEWER
♦ DRAINAGE BOARD UNWILLING TO CONTRIBUTE
A suggestion by the Railways Department that the Christchurch Drainage Board should contribute one-tmia of the cost of strengthening a sewer m Falsgrave street was unfavourably received by the board last night. The strengthening of the sewer, the department explained, was considered desirable as the department intended to place new sidings over about 200 feet of sewer. , , . Board members commented tnat it would be unfair to expect ratepayers to contribute to the cost of a work which had been made necessary by the department’s act. and it was agreed to reply stating that the board could not assist. The department’s letter added that the construction of the Falsgrave-street-subway would be begun shortly, and it was desirable that the sewer renewal should be done first. The department stated that the matter was urgent, as it was desired to put the work in hand with the minimum of delay.
