The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.xn. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Light to moderate and variable winds, north-easterlies predominating in coastal areas and northwesterlies inland. Weather fair to fine. Temperatures milder. Seas slight to moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate northerly winds, freshening gradually. Weather cloudy with scattered rains, more especially In the southern areas. Temperatures mild. Seas slight to moderate. but rising. DOMINION The forecast for the Dominion is;—
Fine generally at first. Clouding over to-morrow, however, in southern Westland and the far south, and scattered rains gradually developing. Cool night tonight, but temperatures warmer tomorrow. Pressure is very uniform over the Dominion, an anti-cy-clone lying centrally over it. A depression covers south-eastern Australia.
Winds—Light to moderate and variable at first with south-easterlies predominating over the North Island and northerlies over the South, Northerlies gradually extending northward however, and later freshening about and south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Slight to moderate generally, but rising tomorrow in the far south-west and south. Eastern Tasman Sea—Northerly winds prevailing.' light to moderate in the northern portion with slight tc jnod€rate seas. Moderate to strong in the southern portion with rising seas CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER There was intermittent sunshine in Christchurch yesterday and a cold easterly wind. The maximum temperature during the day was 52.8 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was cloudy and there was a ngm easterly wind. The temperatore was 48 degrees and the barometer was steady at 30.23 in. Auckland—Fine weather with a light and variable wind was experienced during yesterday. The maximum temperature was 63 degrees. The barometer was fairly steady, with the reading at 5 p.m. 30.15 inches. Wellington—There was light rain on Monday evening, and a brief shower yesterday morning, but otherwise the weather has been fair to fine, with a light south-east breeze and moderate temperatures. The maximum temperature yesterday was 56.6 degrees, and the minimum on Monday night 50.1 degrees. At 3 p.m. yesterday the temperature was 54.1 degrees, and the barometer 30.195 inches.
Dunedin—The sun shone yesterday from a cloudless sky, but there was a keen north-east breeze, which kept the maximum temperature down to 56 degrees. The barometer fell to 30.25 inches, where it remained steady.
