GOLDEN WEDDING
MR AND MRS THORNHILL COOPER Yesterday Mr and Mrs Thornhill Cooper, well known and greatly esteemed citizens of Christchurch, celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding. Mr Cooper, who is in his ninety-eighth year, and Mrs Cooper both enjoy good health, and yesterday, at their home, "Gatley," Papanuiroad, they entertained many friends m honour of their golden wedding anniversary. The reception rooms were gay with. flowers—primroses, freesias, ranunculi, hyacinths, and stocks—all gifts from well wishers, many oi whom, though unable to call at "Gatley," sent telegrams and letters bearinp congratulations and good wishes. At a pleasant party in the afternoon the guests played trump whist, and at afternoon tea time Mr Cooper cut the wedding cake, set in a-garland of yellow cowslips and beautifully decorated in gold. Mrs Cooper wore a frock of black lace and a shoulder spray of golden freesias. The guests were Mrs J. R. McKenzie, Mrs L. H. Cordery, Miss A. Thomson, Mrs Lance Jewell, Miss M. Redpath, Mrs W. Macartney, Miss J. Lee, Mrs E. Woolf, Miss D. Denshire. #lrs Owen Williams, and Miss G. Thomson. In the evening a bridge party was held. Mrs Cooper wore a frock of black spangled georgette with touches of gold. The guests were Mr and Mrs Sydney Cooper, Mr and Mrs Claud Cooper, Mr Rodney Cooper, Mr and Mrs Walter Scott, Mrs S. C. P. Nicholls, Mr and Mrs W. Stevens, Mr Murray Hobbs, and Mr and Mrs J. Morrison.
