ELECTRIC POWER
DISTRIBUTION ON WEST COAST CRITICISM BY FARMERS' UNION •'That the Government be asked to take over the distribution of electric power in Westland and that sparselypopulated areas be reticulated" was a remit; sponsored by the Hohonu branch, which was discussed at the quarterly meeting of the West Coast Provincial District of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, held recently at Greymouth. Mr W. E. Norton preSl lt was time the Government took over said Mr D. Jellie (Arahura branch;, who moved the remit. He believed in the equality of sacrifice, said Mr H. G. Carter (Ngahere branch), and he had advocated such a proposal for many years. Opposition to it had come from technical experts who seemed mainly concerned to get revenue-producing lines erected. The matter should be considered from a national aspect. In the district he represented, said Mr J. Baird (Rotomanu branch), farmers were tired of being asked to give guarantees before power was brought to them. It was a shame that the people of the Teremakau district were unable to get power. All reticulation, it was explained by the secretary (Mr J. Mulcare). had to be done from loan money, and the Loans Board insisted on guarantees being provided by the people in the area which it was proposed to reticulate, it was impossible to carry out the work from revenue. The remit was carried.

DRAWN MATCH AT REEFTON
REPRESENTATIVE RUGBY LEAGUE
INANGAHUA AND WEST COAST
In bright sunshine, before only a fair attendance at Reefton on Sunday afternoon, the Inangahua senior representative League team drew with the West Coast representatives. . Spectators looked for bright football, but the display of both teams was disappointing, and only in flashes did either side show representative- standard. The West Coast backs showed up well and their handling at times was brilliant, but dropped passes and wild throwing about of the ball characterised the play of both sides. Inangahua lacked combination, though their tackling was deadly and steady. The score was 13-all, and at halftime 10 to 6 in West Coast's favour. The absence of Scott, Watson, and Lockington did not help the Inangahua team. The repeated dropping of the ball and fumbling in passing rushes lost both sides several scoring opportunities. Scrums were even in the hooking of the ball, but the efforts of the back rankers of both teams to open up play were stopped by the spoiling tactics of their opponents. For West Coast, Kirk, Crowe, and O'Donnell scored and Kirk and Crowe converted. For Inangahua, Orsborn and Joblin scored and McKenzie converted, and he also kicked a goal from a free kick awarded against West Coast. In the latter stages of play West Coast dominated and held the territorial advantage, though just before the iinal whistle Inangahua, in a burst of brilliance, broke away and a desperate struggle near the corner saw West Coast hard pressed. They were compelled to force down to relieve. Mr C. McElwee was referee.
