OHINEMURI J.C. ACCEPTANCES (rasa* association tiimuk.) AUCKLAND, September 24. The Ohinemuri Jockey Club has received the following acceptances:— 12 Noon— KEREPEEHI HACK HANDICAP, of £l3O. Five furlongs.
TROTTING NOTES
Reminders Acceptances for the Methven Trottin? Club's meeting, to be held on Saturday next, will close to-day. Acceptances for the New Brighton" meeting will close on October 4. when a payment for the New Brighton Challenge Stakes will also fall due. The annual meeting of the Canterbury Owners' and Breeders' Association will be held this evening. The Derby Favourite Aldershot proved himself in a; class high above those opposed to him in the Wellington Stake, on Saturday. Leaving the barrier smartly, he gave nothing a chance.,He could have won by a good deal more than the substantial margin which separated him from the second horse. In his opening race, the Nursery Stakes at Ti. maru in March last. Aldershot showed that he knew nothing of the requirements of racing and he displayed considerable temper in the first furlong Since then, experience has mellowed him and in the Sapling Stake* he duj up a good performance to run second to Bedrock, and beat a big field. At the recent New Brighton meeting he paced evenly and kindly, and although he was not successful his effort was good enough to suggest him as a winner of Saturday's race. He was certainly without the opposition of Bedrock and Shadowson. two of the best ofi their age, but this pair are also miss- l ing from the New Zealand Derby to be run in November at Addington. Another absentee from Saturday's race was Special Edition, who was third in the Sapling Stakes; but even with the opposition of the three-mentioned horses it is doubtful whether Aidershot would have been beaten. Now that he has settled down he looks a colt worthy at his breeding. He ..is by Wrack from Trix Pointer, already a noted brood mare, and one likely to take a place amongst the greatest matrons New Zealand has known. Aidershot was her third classic winner, the others being Wrackler, the greatest allround racehorse the Dominion ha? known, and Arethusa, who for one of her.inches has had few equals. It is interesting to note that a fourth of her progeny, in Stamboul, has won two races lately and is carrying on the family record. Trix Pointer was a great little race mare and included in her long list of wins are the New Zealand Cup, National Cup, and Free-for-All She was imported from America by Messrs F. Holmes and W. H. Norton and has proved one of the most successful pacers ever brought to New Zealand. Philario Improves When Philario won the Bollard Memorial Handicap on Saturday, M. B. Edwards trained his first .winner on the trotting track for the present season, although he has been more success ful with the small team 'of gallopers he has in work* Incidentally in his Wellington success he finished up properly by filling second place ?with Twenty Grand. The time was not particularly fast, but the track was on the slow side, and a greater appeal was made by the manner of Philario's win than the time registered. This horse has been on the gradual improve and may not have finished his winning sequence. He is still on a handy mark with plenty of opportunities in the near future. Dark Hassrd ! Although Dark Hazard was the popular fancy for the Bollard Memorial Handicap, at Hutt Park on Saturday. his supporters were evidently so disappointed with his running that he was allowed to no out at a good price for the final race of the day. The distance of the latter race was Only a quarter of a mjle shorter than the big event, and this cannot be advanced as a reason for his defeat. Dark Hazard had previously shown his ability over a mile and a half. 'When he was narrowly beaten by Donor at Addington recently. M. C. McTigue must nave had a very good. day. for Preciou r Metal, as well as Dark Hazard, brought a lot of grist to the Methven mill, and there are further prospects when McTigue produces his team for the local fixture on Saturday next. Well Deserved Success' D. Bennett, a very competent trainer, who in a long experience has gained his fair share of success, does not receive many opportunities nowadays, but in Dollar Maid he has in hand a useful type of trotter, who in her last

Reminders Acceptances for the Kurow Jockey Club's meeting will close at 8 p.m. tomorrow. . , „. Nominations for the principal events at the Canterbury Jockey Clubs metropolitan meeting will close at a p.xn. on Friday, when an acceptance for the New Zealand Cup will also be due. Satisfactory Progress L. J. Ellis is progressing favourably at the Timaru Hospital. He is suffering from a slight fracture of the skull, in addition +o his scalp injury, and it is expected he will remain in the institution for three weeks. It is possible that he will not be able to resume riding' for some months. His wedding, which was to have taken place on Wednesday, has been indefinitely postponed, and .his brother. A. E. Ellis. who delayed his departure for Melbourne in order to be best man, will leave for Sydney by Thursdays steamer from Wellington. Starting Season Well G. Humphries was in good riding form again at Orari on Saturday and I had three more wins, all after hard finishes, making six for the meeting. Humphries was engaged on Saturday to ride Defaulter in the Dunedin Guineas, and will no doubt carry on as his rider in races in which he will not be required by the Chokebore stable. Rider Indisposed C. G. Goulsbro, who contracted pneumonia at the Grand • National meeting last month, has made a good recovery from his illness, and was present at the Avondale meeting. Goulsbro expects to resume riding at the Auckland Racing Club's spring meeting at the beginning of next month. Juvenile Trials In two-year-old trials at Kandwick last week, over four furlongs, the fastest time was registered by Folk Song, a bay filly by Siegfried from Princess Bell. This Ally is in J. T. Jamieson's stable pnd was purchased by her trainer at the last Trentham sales for 200 guineas. Another heat was won by BeaUwaire. a brown colt by Beau Pere from Timid. An Early Return
The A.J.C. Derby candidate Aeolus, Who wa-5 sold by his trainer. P. Riddle, for 1600 guineas, was purchased by Messrs T. D., C. J., and R. V. Gove. Aeolus won the Rosehill Guineas in his first start for hfs new owners, who are residents of Melbourne. It is reported that Aeolus may in time be sent to India. In the meanwhile he is remaining in Riddle's stable. A Breakdown
When running prominently in the Gladstone Hack Handicap at the Geraldine meeting on Saturday, Maori Maid went back suddenly, and when pulled Up it was thought she had suffered a broken leg. Veterinary attention was given, and it was revealed her injury was confined to a badly-strained tendon, and although very lame she was able to walk back to her stable. Maori Maid, who dead-heated m race In Sydney when trained by R. W. King and won a race at the last Waimate Hunt Club fixture, is owned by Mr G. R. Hunter, of Oamaru. Two Failure*
On* Saturday's form Argentic will have to improve a good deal m the next lew weeks to have much chance In the New Zealand Cup, and Pontys poor effort was not "very encouraging for a prospective Cup candidate. Argentic's failure was not unexpected, but Ponty was very costly. No doubt the hard ground and turning course affected both horses.
From English Mares Auctor, winner of the Wainui Handicap at Orari on Saturday, is a wellgrown chestnut gelding by Balboa from Spean Bridge, a mare imported from England in 1922 by Mr A. Chisholm, of Otautau. who bred Auctor. Spean Bridge is by High Mor from Annie Laurie, by Marcovil from Gracious Annie, by Bachelor's Double, and before being put to the stud she won races for Mr Chisholm. Another from. the same stud at Otautau racing on Saturday was the four-year-old Boswell, by Balboa from Celerity 11, a mare also imported from England in 1922 by Mr Chisholm, who brought out Glentruin at the same time. Celerity II is lay Gainsborough from Force of Gravity, by Forfarshire, and also won races before being retired. Boswell has not done * great deal of racing, but is one likely to be in marked evidence this season. Unlucky Gelding
Comus, Who is now held on lease by Mr ,W. Broad from his ownet, Mr M. O'Brien, ran two sound races at Geraldine, and will soon forfeit his maiden status. He is a four-year-old by Excitement, and was purchased as a yearling in Sydney for Mr O'Brien, who raced him as a two-year-old a few times in 1937. The gelding several times looked like making good, but met with various mishaps, and on more than one occasion had to be put aside just as he was considered ready to show hi* best. First Win Messrs P. H. Osborne and E. L. Bailleau. committeeman of the Australian Jockey Club and the Victoria Racing piub respectively, recently had their first win with the three-year-old colt Rotorua, purchased on their behalf as a yearling in /New Zealand in 1937 by the South Australian trainer, C. Wheeler, for 1000 guineas. Rotorua is by Beau Pere. now at the St. Aubins Stud, Scone, from Summer Time, by Grandcourt, from Very Hot, by Grosvenor. Rotorua had'his first race in the Hobartville Stakes, and was outclassed. The run did him good, and at his next run. he finished fourth at Rosebery. At Victoria Park he was produced in tho Three-year-old Handicap, run over seven furlongs. The manner in which he raced over the last furlong with Shipley. Benburb, and Lord Valentine, to beat the lastnamed by a head, indicated more wins.
Te Hero's Misbehaviour The failure of Te Hero to run into a place in either of his engagements at the Avondale Jockey Club's spring meeting was very disconcerting to his admirers, who expected him to be prominent, even although he was not considered thoroughly attuned. On the first day Te Hero misbehaved at the wost and did not leave until he had lost his chance, so that no line was obtained on his present form. In spite bf his misbehaviour on the first day he was made a good second favourite for the Avondale Guineas, only to give his supporters a very poor run. For about three furlongs-he was handily nlaced. but lost ground quickly near thfi half-mile, and at the home turn was hooelessly in the rear. It was stated after the race that he got his tongue over the bit during the race, and that A. Tinker had difficulty in controlling him.
Whatever may have been the reason for Te Hero's lapse of form, it would be unwise to discredit him until he has had further ooportunity of showing his worth. The brilliance he disnlayed as a two-year-old was absent, but the fact that he is a highly-strung colt who had been off the scene since January suggested that he was not himself. The stock of Valais, sire of Te Hero's sire. Heroic, was temperamental, and Te Hero appears to have inherited this characteristic. However, he may be more forward and settled on his next trip away from home, and he can be expected to rehabilitate himself a little later.
three starts has won once and has been nlaced second twice. Each time Dollar Maid, even under hard pressure, .har trotted solidly, and she may do even better- before the season is far advanced. Well Belated Mitaya. a three-ryear-old filly trained by F. J. Smith, and owned in Auckland, by Mr W. Hbskings, is a half-sis-ter by Truman Direct to Frisco Boy and Frisco Lady, and was bred at Riccarton by Mr W. J. Morland.
