TRAMWAY REVENUE

FIGURES FOR PERIOD OF FOUR WEEKS GREATER DEFICIENCY THAN LAST YEAR The revenue account of the Christchurch Tramway Board for the period of four weeks ending August 14 shows a deficiency of £IB4O, according to a report of the works and traffic committee received at a' meeting of the board on Saturday morning, over which Mr E. Parlane presided. "The earnings for the period were prejudicially affected by adverse weather in Grand National period and by the epidemics of measles and influenza," the report stated, adding that the period included two weeks of operation of the new fares. A decrease of £lB5 in revenue from fares on the figures for the corresponding period last year was shown, but advertising and other receipts showed an increase of £75. An increase of £073 in operating expenses was the major factor in making the deficiency for the period £BOB more than that for last year's period. The report also shows a decrease of 47,661 in the number of passengers carried.
