DONATION TO TRAMWAY BOARD
A donation of £3. accompanied by a note signed "Christian," has been received "by the Christchurch Tramway Board. "It is quite a welcome little donation," said the chairman of the board (Mr E. Parlane) at Saturday morning's meeting. The general manager (MrH. E. Jarman) said that the office had received quite a number of unpaid fares' in the past from people who said that they were associated with the Oxford movement, but that it was the first time a gift of this kind had been received. "This isn't conscience money, it is a donation," said the Hon. J. K. Archer, M.L.C., in reply to a suggested explanation. The idea that the money.might have come from Fendalton was scouted by Mr H: E. Denton, who humorously remarked that "there wasn't £3 in Fendalton if you mortgaged the whole lot."
