HOCKEY
ANNUAL METHVEN . TOURNAMENT Fifty-eight teams, representing clubs in many parts of Canterbury, took part in the annual hockey tournament held at Methven on Saturday afternoon under the auspices of the Methven Women's Hockey Club. The tournament is about the biggest one-day fixture held in New Zealand. Grounds were hard and fast after the recent fine weather, and consequently many bright displays of hockey were seen in all sections. Some players showed carelessness which was excusable because of the lateness of the season. Matches were held continuously throughout the afternoon, and the men's competition was completed in the dusk. Results were as follows: Men's Matches Senior A Section (6) —First round: Redcliffs A 2, Christchurch Technical . Old Boys 1; Redcliffs B 4, Trinity A (Christchurch) 0; Sydenham 2, Selwyn 0. Semifinal: Redcliffs A 2, Sydenham 1; Redcliffs B 14, Trinity B 1. Final: Redcliffs B lj. Redcliffs A 1.
The winning team was J. Coleman, J. Sutherland, H. Le Page, H. McCoskey, and R. Thomson.
Senior B Section (6) —First round: Sydenham A 3, Methven A 0; Sydenham B J, Wigram 0; Baring Square (Ashburton) 1, Thistle (Christchurch) 0. Semi-finals: Sydenham A 1, Sydenham B 0: Baring Square J, Christchurch Technical Old Boys 0. Final: Sydenham A 1, Baring Square 0. The winning team was R. Peacock, J. Copplestone, C. Dale, P. Sloan, and R. Williams.

Semi-finals: Wakanui i. Digby's 0; Hornby 4, West Christchurch 0. Final: Hornby 3, Wakanui 0. The winning team was Misses I. Riddell, M. Green, D. Dickey, G. McKenzie, M. McKenzie, and Mrs M. Leonard.

Franklin (president of. the Canterbury Women's Hockey Association), assisted by Mrs G.
