SUBSTITUTION OF BUSES
TRAMWAY BOARD DEFERS DECISION Although the Christchurch Tramway Board, sitting as a works and traffic committee, discussed at some length yesterday afternoon a proposal to substitute buses for the electric tram service on the Opawa-Fendalton route, no decision was reached and further consideration will be given to the matter at a later date. The track over nost of this route has now reached that state of disrepair at which it requires “lifting and packing,” a very expensive process. The board will seek further information before deciding whether the substitution of a bus service is likely to be more economical than the repair of the track. The committee also considered other urgent maintenance works, including the repair of track and road in, Colombo, street and Cashel street, and these will be considered further by the meeting of the board to-day. _
