TOBOGGANING AND SKIING

* POSITION AT ARTHUR’S PASS Consideration of the positon of tobogganers and ski-ers at the spowflelds at Arthur’s Pass was given by members at a meeting of the Arthur’s Piss National Park Board yesterday afternoon. Mr G. G. Lockwood said that some years ago the Christchurch' Ski Club had cleared an area and made a track to it. This path was being used by the day excursionists. It was not big enough for tobogganing, and hopeless confusion and danger would result. It became evident that something should be done, but not at the expense of the Ski Club’s ground, and he suggested that if the board found a ground for tobogganing it would, put an end to the conflict. Dr. W. McKay said that he felt that some segregation of the sports was necessary. A ground had been cleared six years ago, and had become known as the ski nursery ground. It was near a tributary of the Bealey river. The tobogganists appeared to be quite satisfied with the ground, and if it proved a little small they might consider lengthening the run. Mr Lockwood said that although the position was all right this season they might be confronted «ith a difficulty. Ift; ftp future, - .
