CITY IMPROVEMENTS
TO IH« EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —It would be of interest to know exactly how much it has cost to improve the site of the recent conveniences in High street. I am sure the amount would stagger the public. However, the City Council has acted in good faith’. It has done its part, and when the enclosure is levelled off and planted, it should look very well. The cycle stand is a great boon; many thanks. The strongest advocates for the improvement of this particular part of the city were' trustees representing absentee owners of the nearest premises. Now it is surely up to them to improve this dilapidated, out-of-date, old block, the frontage of which, at the present time, looks like an advertising hoarding, gone loco. Citizens interested enough to take notice will agree with the writer that the hotchpotch mentioned is a disgrace to Christchurch. —Yours, etc., FAIR ALL ROUND. September 22, 1938. [“Full information about the cost of improvements will be published when the job has been finished,” said the Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane), when he was-invited to comment on this letter. “I doubt very much whether the amount will be staggering,” he added.]
