ARTHUR’S PASS
NEEDS IN TOWNSHIP _ A decision to circularise of the board’s property at Arthur’s Pass informing them of the by-law which made it necessary for them to submit any plans for alterations to their, huts to tne board for approval, was made by the Arthur’s Pass National Park Board yesterday. When the questions of needs in the township was raised, the chairman (Mr N. C. Kensington) said that if the residents formed thejnselves into a town board, a beautifying society, or something similar, the board could subsidise them for footpath work or anything else necessary. Mr G. G. Lockwood said that he did not think the leaseholders could form themselves into a town board at present as they were under the jurisdiction of
the board. The settlement had been deliberately included in the Park Board’s area. The leaseholders paid a rent of £2 a year, and this was in effect a rate.' .The' Cfiairman: It cpuld" be raised.to. Mr Lockwood: If they, afraht facilities that is the answer, •ntfvounte.
