INSURANCE RATES INCREASED
MARINE WAR RISKS INTERCOLONIAL CARGOES AFFECTED (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, September 22.
An increase of 500 per cent, in the insurance of marine policies, including war risk on cargoes shipped between New Zealand and Australia, has been announced by the Dominion Marine Underwriters. Until recently the war risk rate between the two countries was 6d pet cent, but by the decision of the underwriters it has been advanced to 2s 6d per cent. It is understood that the rate may be revised at the week-end. Not all the marine insurance companies operating in the Dominion are said to be prepared to accept war risks either on intercolonial shipments or overseas. 'The Marine Underwriters have previously announced increases on overseas war risk insurances, and these, as well as the intercolonial war insurances, are now explained as being subject to 48 hours’ notice of cancellation up to time of shipment.
