The Minister for Labour (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong) returned to the North Island by the steamer express last evening. He will make an election tour in the north and later return to Canterbury.

The appointment of Mr G. P. Shepherd as Judge of the Native Land Court from October -1 was gazetted last night.
Colonel P. H. Bell, N.Z.S.C., and LieutenantColonel O. H. Mead, N.Z.S.C., have been appointed honorary aides-de-camp to the Gov-ernor-General, according to a Gazette notice. The following producers’ representatives have been appointed to the New Zealand Fruit .Export Control Board, according to a Gazette notice:—Messrs A. B. Congdon, H. E. Stephens, and F. G. Duncan.
A motion of sympathy with the relatives, of Archbishop Julius was passed at a meeting of the committee of the Royal Christchurch Musical Society, of which Archbishop Julius was a vice-president. Mr W. W. Mulholland, Dominion president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, was a passenger from the North Island by the steamer express yesterday morning. Messrs H. G. Livingstone and W. R. Carey returned from the north yesterday morning. Colonel G. J. Smith was among the passengers from Wellington by yesterday morning’s steamer express.
Dr, D. G. McMillan, M.P., was a passenger from the north by the steamer express yesterday morning.
Mr A. E. Hefford, Chief Inspector of Fisheries, arrived in Christchurch from Wellington yesterday morning.
Messrs S. G. Farquhar and A. Ashley-Cooper returned to Christchurch by the steamer express yesterday morning after attending a Dominion conference of milk producers m Wellington.
Sir Robert Clark-Hall, Dominion Commissioner for rover scouts, Mr F. Mclvor, Metropolitan Bov Scout Commissioner for Christchurch, and Mr F. Olds, assistant-Metropolitan Commissioner for' Training, were passengers for Wellington by the steamer express last night. They will attend the annual Dominion council meeting there to-day, which will be opened by the Governor-General (Lord Galway), who is Dominion Chief Scout
