POST AND TELEGRAPH WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION The monthly meeting of the North Canterbury Post and Telegraph Women’s Association was held in the rooms of the Catholic Women’s League. • Mrs W. H. Smith presided over a large attendance of members, and after the usual business of the association had been discussed a debate was held between ladies, of the Christchurch -Workers’ Educational Association s and the Awatea Ladies’ Debating Club. ; The i subject was “That women police would lessen crime in New Zealand.” ,• , Mr? C. M. Dymond, of the Awatea'Club, was chairwoman for the debate,-and' Mr A. J. McDonald! Was judge. . ’ r. L ,. } ' The teams were as follow?: — C./f Affirmative, Awatea—Miss ' C. . Dymond (leader); Misses D. Rounthwaite, and L. Nevin. ' Negative,. Workers’ Educational Association—Miss M. Ockenden (leader), Misses G. G. Hunter and" T. Agar. The-Judder gave some; helpful criticism and instruction in the art of debating, and Awarded'iM higher marks to the- Awatea Club. CULYERDEN FOOTBALL ■ CLUB SUCCESSFUL DANCE Always anticipated as'one of the most enjoyable dances of the year,, the Culverden Football Club’s annual dance, held in the Culverden Hall, was this year as successful as usual. There was an excellent attendance, although there Is much sickness In the district. Visitors from Hanmer Springs, Waiau, Rotherham. Harwarden, and Walkarl were present. The success of the dance was a credit to the president (Mr S. Maxwell) and his supporters. The club colours, red and black, were prominent In the decorations. Mr Maxwell congratulated the senior and junior teams on their fine performance in the competitions and presented L. Hlgginson and R. Fitzgibbon with trophies for the most improved players in the senior and junior teams respectively. The music for dancing was played by Colin Campbell’s band, and extras by Miss Iris Dalzell. Mr R. Crewes was master of ceremonies. ■ Amongst those present were Mr and Mrs W. V. Mockett, Mr and Mrs C. J. Crothall, Mr and Mrs R. Crewes. Mr and Mrs D. Sterritt, Mr and Mrs J. GIFT PARTY Miss Kathleen Reilly, who is soon to Be married.-was entertained at a gift afternoon party given by Mrs R. Nuttall at her home in Sydenham. Miss 'Reilly received many useful gifts for her future home. The afternoon was spent in games and competitions, the winners of the competitions being Mrs Reilly, jun., Mrs Downing, jun.. Miss Reilly, and Miss Kennedy. Those present were Mesdames J. Reilly, sen., J. Reilly, jun., L. Downing, sen., W. Downing,' jun., R. McLaughlin, A. Wilkinson, R. Nuttall, J. Keys. Misses K.
