RANGIORA DISTRICT SCHOOL IMPROVEMENTS BEING MADE TO GROUNDS Considerable improvements are being made to the grounds of the Rangiora District School. The grounds have been drained and levelled, lawns have been top-dressed, paths repaired, and already the grounds have a spaciousness that was lacking in the surrounings a few months ago. By Christmas it is hoped to have most of the work finished. It is too late now to plant the native shrubs in the grounds, and planting will probably be postponed until August of next year, when children will be invited to bring seedlings. The work at the school is providing employment for men under scheme 13. CHILDREN’S CRECHE AT RANGIORA APPROVAL OP SCHEME BY MAYOR Approval of the Rangiora High School Board’s proposal to establish a children's creche at the high school was expressed by the Mayor of Rangiora (Mr C. W. Tyler)) when discussing the plan. Mr Tyler remarked he was sure the scheme deserved support, as it would undoubtedly benefit mothers coming to Rangiora on market days, and might even develop into a six-day creche. The creche;" when established, will be run on almost similar lines to that of the children’s nurseries in England. Consideration is being given by a subcommittee to the installation of suitable equipment for the nursery and to certain alterations which will have to be made to the hostel before it is suitable for young children. Between £lO and £ls will be needed for fur- ] nishing the creche and the necessary alterations, and it is hoped that a good portion of this sum will be raised through subscriptions. It will probably be late next month < before the creche is opened. The 1 nursery will be conducted by Miss ■ Doreen Dolton, under the auspices of i the Association for Country Education. 1
