CARPENTERS AND JOINERS
——— CLAIMS NOW BASED ON PRESENT AWARD WAGES REFERRED TO COURT (PRESS ASSOCIATION tBCEOBAM.) WELLINGTON. September 22. When the hearing of the application for a Dominion award, for carpenters, joiners, and joiners’-assistants was resumed before a Conciliation Commissioner at Wellington to-day, the assessors for the applicant union agreed to base their arguments on the present award, thus removing the danger of a stalemate, as had nppeared likely after the first day’s discussion. Settlement was reached on a number of clauses. The major matters referred to the Court were wages, the term of the award, and suburban and country work. The hearing was taken in committee, at the request of the union’s assessors, a statement being issued at the Conclusion of the proceedings. It was agreed to allow the exemption of parties provided In the present award to continue, but to call a special conference of representatives of county councils and other ' local bodies and Workers’ assessors to discuss general conditions of work.
