UNINJURED
(PSBM SSSOCIATIOK TXT W 1 tM )
NEW PLYMOUTH. September 21
Two men were buried beneath tons of sand when a trench in which they were working collapsed at Pates, thisafternoon. One of them, George Edgecombe, of Pa tea, was extricated unharmed, but the other. George Allen, a married man, of Palmerston Njarth,. was dead when he was dug out two’ hours later.
The men were working together when the trench, 14 feet deep, caved in. Rescuers could work only two at a time. Edgecombe, who was in a standing position, was almost clear when a further slip buried him to the chin. It was not till an hour later that he was released. Allen was crouching when the fail occurred and was dead when taken out.
