DIAMOND HARBOUR-PURAU
The monthly meeting Of the Diamond Harbour-Purau branch* of the Women’s Division of the Farmers Union was held at Godley House, the residence of Mrs W- Toy. Mrs W. Agar presided over a good attendance, and ■ two new members were- elected. It was decided to contribute £1 towards the funds of Flock House, recently taken over by the ■ Women’s Division. Members promised to bring suitable gifts to the next meeting in response to the Christmas appeal for the leper station at Makogai.. .Letters of thanks were received from the Lyttelton branch of the Plunket Society and the Cholmondeley Home for donations received from the division during the month. , Competition winners were as fol-lows:—-Cheese scones, Miss Suttoii 1, Mrs W. Agar and Miss Pi' Hunter (equal) 2, .Mrs H. ,H. Gainer I.rSj. bowl of spring, flbwers. Miss Hater Hiinter 1. Mrs Manson 2, Miss, D. Carddiner 3; specimeh .bloom; Miss M.Sufctoii and Mrs G-Broivn (equal). 1, Mrs H. H. Gardiner 2, i Mrs White-Parsons and Mrs J, Hunter (equal) 3. The Rev., E..Malden gave, an interesting account of. his travels through Spain and Portugal. The hostesses were Mesdames Agar, W. Paine, and Watts.
CHORLTON-UTTLE AKALOA BRANCH
Mr R. M. Craw- .presided at the monthly ! meeting of ’the. ChorltonLattle Akaloa branch of the Women’s Division ol the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. Members decided to make garments for the inmates of Cholmonr: deley Home. It was decided to make a.collection at the October meeting ,and forward it to Mr Twomey for the 'Makogai leper fund. Mrs L. Waghorn won first and second prizes for a buttonhole competition out of 14 entries. Mesdames R. C. and R. E. Waghorn tied for first place in the competition for an article made from a flour bag.
AMUBI BRANCH , There was a good attendance at the September meeting - of _ the Amuri branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union, at which Mrs M. Bethell presided. . . . s , it was annoimced that each. mem- ; her of the division had beennskedyto - contribute Is towards a fund for;toe . running expenses of the Girls Flock House, Which, has just been taken over • by the division to.be used as a rest, home and training, centre for domestic , workers, . ' \ At the conclusion of the business 1 session, Mrs J. Hare (Ashburton) gave .an interesting demonstration of pewter work. ■ ' . Competition results were: Bottled . fruit, Mrs P. Mrs S. ■ Popplewell (equal) 1, Mrs L. Johns 2, . Miss E. Black 3; scones. Miss E. Draper 1, Miss McLaughlin 2. Mrs G. Johns 3; best arranged vase of spring flowers, ; Mrs B. McMillan 1, Mrs L. Johns 2 Mrs A. Black 3; best arranged vase of flowering shrubs. Mrs G. McLaughlin 1, Miss McLaughlin 2, Mrs Grueber 3. Mrs Bethell judged the decorative classes and Mrs G. Hartnell the cookery section. . The winner of the competition trophy for the season just concluded was Mrs S. Popplewell. Mrs Miln was second and Mrs Burrows third. YALDHURST BRANCH Mrs J. A. Crawford presided at the September meeting of the Yaldhurst branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. The roll-calf- was “A Christmas gift for the lepers at Makogai.” A competition was won by Miss I. Crawford. The home competitions resulted as follows: Flowers, Mrs Guy 1, Mrs Johnston and Mrs Macdonald (equal) 2, Miss McKenzie 3; cakes, Mrs L. Franks 1, Mrs Macdonald 2, Mrs Inch and Miss McKenzie (equal) 3. DARFIELD BRANCH Mrs A. A. Stott presided, at the monthly meeting of the Darfield branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. Mrs Edbrookf and Mrs Hutcheon > were appointed delegates to the health stamp committee. It was decided to make an annual contribution to- the Flock House Rest Home. Mrs G, C. Warrem was appointed trustee. Mr Stevens, of v thf Crippled Children’s Society, gave, a talk dh its aims and objects. The results of the competitions were; Butter. Mrs J. Syme 1. Mrs H. Reed 2, Miss I. Stewart 3; Turkish delight, Mrs Max Johnston 1. Miss Duncan 2 Miss Uta Hennessy 3: three large blooms, Mrs R. S. Gunn 1. Miss Uta Hennessy 2, Mrs G. C. Warren 3; small 1 bloom. Mrs W. W. Mulholland 1, Mrs A. A. Stott 2, Mrs Jenkins 3. Hostesses were Mesdames G. C. Warren, J. Creamer, and Miss Greta Spriggs.
