DISSATISFACTION WITH REPOETS

COMMENT ON COMMERCIAL RADIO STATIONS

“Press reports so far published of this conference have been rather onesided,” said Mr F. H. Porter, a Wellington delegate to the conference of the Federation of School Committees’ Associations last evenipg. “When we delegates get home, reports will have appeared in our own papers, and our people will have been looking to see what we said and did. Names of delegates have hot been published in the way they always were elsewhere.” “I suppose we are small potatoes, now that the election campaigns are pressing on the space,” said Mr T. Nuttall, the secretary. He thought that the omission of a list of names was a serious one.-

A denial that he had condemned the National Commercial Broadcasting stations was made by Mr A. A. Buckley, of Auckland. He said that “The Press” had made it appear so, and asserted: “I am not going to have one man slandered when all have been responsible. I did not condemn the commercial stations alone —the YA’s are just as much to blame.”

Mr C. D. W. L. Sheppard (Christchurch) said that the report in “The Press” had reprinted the remit which Mr Buckley had moved, and then recorded the deletion of the word “commercial.”

The following delegates were present; —National President R. S. H. Buchanan, Mrs F. W. Mountjoy, Mr A. A. Buckley. Mr F. C. Pace (Auckland), Mr N. E. Dalmer, Mr F. H. Porter (Wellington), Mr T. W. .Langley, Mr F. H. Dephoff (Canterbury), Mr J. Garcia (North Taranaki), Mrs C. Benton (South Taranaki), Mr R. H. Stapleton (proxy. North Taranaki), Mr W. R Taylor (Manawatu), Mr A. E. Morgan Mr E. V. Ellery (West Coast), Mr J D. Clyde (Otago), Mr C. D. W. L. Sheppard (proxy, Otago). Mr J. W. Preen Mr G. A. McGregor (South Canterbury); Mr T. Walker (Southland). Mr C. R. N. Mackie (proxy, Matamata). Mr A. Greenwood (proxy. Centra] Taranaki), National Secretary T. Nuttall.
