COMPULSORY UNIONISM
to tub EDiTom or in* pmias. Sir, —The Labour Party states that it will not tolerate conscription. If compulsory unionism is not conscription of the workers, it is very close to it. At our factory we have a youth working for us aged 18 years. He is a good boy doing good work. He is satisfied with his job. and we are satisfied with him. The law states that he must join the union. If he will not join, then we must dismiss him. For various reasons. this lad’s people will not allow him to become a member of the -union. We have had to give the boy notice this week that his services
with the company are to be terminated. . . . It is agreed that unionism has been beneficial, and has justified its existence, but to make it compulsory, for every worker to join is purely dictatorship.—Yours. «tc,
