A NEST OF TABLES
Three tables, to be made of oak, are very simply designed to fit one ■within the other. They must be very carefully built to the exact measurements so that they stand firmly. The smallest table has a middle shelf and a lower shelf for books; but these can be left out so that all three tables are alike. Figs. 2 and 3 show the construction. The ends A should be
grooved 4in. deep to receive the back. The ends and top should also be grooved up into the top and
glued. The bases should be dowelled to the ends to prevent warping. The back is cross tongued to the ends for preference (see Fig. 3), but dowels may be used instead (there is no allowance in the measurements for tongues). All tops have an overhang of 4m all round, and may have a moulded or rounded edge as well. The grooves in the tops for the backs and ends should be stopped 4in from' the
front edges. Also the grooves should be fairly tight. Rightangled brackets screwed into the
inside angles will give extra security if necessary. If the shelves are added the top rail is dovetailed as shown in Fig. 3 The bottom is screwed down to the front rail and the shdes are screwed to the sides with sunk screws. The shelf can be grooved in or left loose on bearers or adjustable racks. So that the smafler tables will clear the floor they should be planed down Jin or l-16in along their are finished the tables should be lightly stained and polished.

Changeless
High among the lonely hills. While I lay beside my sheep. Rest came down and filled my soul. From the everlasting deep.
Changeless march to stars above. Changeless morn succeeds to even; Still the everlasting hills Changeless watch the changeless heaven.

darts. And both do aim at human hearts, —Ben Jon son.
