The establishment of kindergarten classes at primary schools wherever possible was urged by the conference of the Dominion Federation of School Committees' Associations, which began in the City Council Chamber. Mr A. A. Buckley (Auckland) said it wbuld be necessary to bring specialist teachers from abroad. It was a new phase off education which would have to be considered. Other delegates said that the work of the existing kindergartens should not be disparaged;'but it was felt that the education system should be continuous from the earliest ages. The conference decided to approve the establishment of kindergartens attached to primary schools wherever warranted by the number of children.
From noon to-day; Porter's Pass will be closed to traffic because of repairs to the road, according to advice received by the Greymouth branch of the Automobile Association (Canterbury).. In the meantime, traffic over the Otira Gorge to Christchurch must use the Lake Lyndon-Coleridge deviation. It is hoped that the Porter's Pass road will be opened again this week-end. —'The Press" Special Service.
