CHRISTIANITY AND THE LABOUR PARTY

TO THB EOITOK Of THI t'KESS.. Sir, —I do not wish to refer to "Christianity and the Labour Party" in a polemical spirit,... as I feel that subjects pertaining to the "higher life" should not be approached in a controversial manner. May I be permitted to mention that it -appears to me that the Government's attitude and acceptance of religion is shown in the prayer with which Mr Speaker opens Parliament every day, part of which only I can remember, which says;— '•'May the results of all our counsels be to the honour of Thy Name—the maintenance of true religion—the peace and tranquillity of the Dominion, through Jesus Christ our Lord." It is quite evident to everyone that the Government, with its love for human values and the development of social prosperity, has done its best to write this prayer into the laws of New Zealand. May Mr Savage, Mr Nash, and the Labour Government continue to practise a religion which demands active, earnest, self-for-getting love and sympathy, and whose duties are summed up in these words: "Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ."—Yours, etc. REG. STILLWELL. September 18, 1938.
